Makalu Base Camp- 21 Days

Trip Introduction

Makalu Base Camp Trek
Among countless trekking destinations throughout the Khumbu region, Makalu is a solitary awe-inspiring trekking destination at the base of giant Mt. Makalu (8,458 m) on the border between Nepal and Tibet at Sankhuwasabha district on Nepal.
Explore the valleys in the eastern region of Nepal and savor the beauty that lies in the Fifth highest mountain in the world. Makalu base camp trekking is high adventures and challenging trek in the Mahalangur Himalayan region of Nepal. Makalu Base Camp trek route progresses through Makalu Barun National Park that is renowned for its rare species of flora and fauna. In fact, Barun Valley provides shelter to some of the last remaining Himalayan meadows. Makalu Barun National Park is home to above 400 species of birds including rare wren babbler, and more than 75 species of mammals like Red Panda, Leopard, and others. The Arun River that crisscrosses the park has more than 80 species of fish.
Makalu Base Camp Trek is a beautiful journey that lets you taste the real adventure of walking inside the Makalu Barun National Park to the Makalu Base Camp. The region offers some magnificent views of Mountains like Mt. Makalu with other peaks like Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Baruntse. The lush scenery of Arun valley is probably the most beautiful thing that will keep you going throughout your journey. Though many people keep their interest in this trek, the Makalu region attracts only a few travelers during a year due to its remote accessibility and off the beaten trekking trail.
Opened for foreigners only since 1952, Trek to Makalu Base Camp is one of the least crowded trekking routes where one can still observe local life in its traditional form Eric Shipton was the first foreigner to visit this lost land by crossing the High Pass which was later named as Shipton La to honor his memory. Makalu region is one of the most culturally diverse areas. Makalu Base Camp trek allows the close-up look of the western face of Makalu.
This is more of a journey than just a trek, for perhaps more experienced trekkers who relish a challenge. If you are a true nature lover looking for something quite different than what the major trekking regions of Everest and Annapurna provide, on trails far away from the crowds then this Trekking is best for you. This journey to and through the Makalu Barun National Park never fails.
