Mera Peak - 18 days

Trip Introduction

Mera Peak Climbing -18 days
Mera Peak climbing is a mountain in the Mahalangur section, Barun sub-section of the Himalayan and administratively in Nepal Sagarmatha Zone, Solu Khumbu District. At 6478 meters (21247ft) it is classified as a trekking Peak. It contains three main summits; Mera North (6478m/ 21247ft), Mera Central (6461m/21198ft), and Mera South (6065m/19898ft), as well as a smaller “trekking summit”, visible as a distinct summit from the south but not marked on most maps of the region.
This region was first explored extensively by a British expedition in the early 50s before and after the ascent of Everest. Members of those teams included Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, Eric Shipton, and George Lowie.
The first ascent of Mera central was on May 20, 1953, by Col. Jimmy Roberts and Sen. Tenzing (who was known by the nickname The Foreign Sportsman). Roberts was heavily involved in establishing the trekking industry in Nepal in the early 1960s. He was posthumously awarded the “Sagarmatha (Everest) National Award” by the government in May 2005.
The height of Mera is often given as (6654m/21831ft) and claimed to be the highest trekking peak. This figure actually points to nearby peak 41, which was mistakenly named Mera in a list of Himalayan Peaks, and the figures were copied to the official trekking list as they were, including the wrong location coordinates.
Mera is a 6476m tall snow-capped mountain peak in Sagarmatha National Park. It is a suitable peak to climb for those looking for a short but very adventurous climbing trip. Summiting this magnificent peak requires an 18-day trip, starting from Kathmandu, along with an experienced mountain guide and the appropriate climbing gear.
This Mera Peak climbing trek allows you to explore the typical villages of local ethnic groups such as Sherpa, Rai, Magar, and Gurung. We will also pass all the beautiful terraced fields and flowing mountain rivers before reaching Khare, the last settlement of the region.
